Bonnie's Story

Finding a cure for cancer has been our dream since our daughter Bonnie was diagnosed with cancer in 1981. This devastating news motivated us to found STOP! CHILDREN’S CANCER, INC.

One week before Bonnie’s death, she came to us early one morning and said she really wanted to make a difference by making sure STOP! would find cures for cancer in children. We suggested she write a letter that we could use to send to friends so everyone could help a little.

With paper in hand, she sat down and wrote the letter. Every now and then she would ask us a question like:

“How much do you think we need to have to make a difference?”

In 1983, interest rates were high, so one million dollars sounded like a good number. Bonnie was very self motivated and always wrote from her heart. She understood that her time was short, but that with everyone’s help STOP! would make a difference.

She was right. STOP! has opened doors so many children can have the opportunity to enjoy life!
